Stop off for a beer but don't have lunch.

Called in with my daughter for lunch. Chose nachos and pizza. The nachos were basically a dish of corn chips with a tablespoon of meat on them. I asked if they could put more on. They put 1 further tablespoon (if that) on, not that it was worth it as taste was non existent. The cheese solidified once it cooled. I think this was made in the microwave. The pizza tasted ok but the base was so thin and soggy we had to eat it with a knife and fork. It was barbeque chicken but had tomato base sauce on it so I'm assuming the bases are pre made. I've eaten better store bought frozen ones. I doubt anything is made fresh. Disappointing for a venue with so much potential and won't be eating there again. I can't comment on the rooms as I didn't stay there but the building where the rooms are looks really dirty from the outside. From trip sites photos the rooms look very brown and old fashioned. Please get rid of the tablecloths in them.

Stayed at the hotel with my brother from 28/11 to 08/12. We shared a room with 2 single beds, with fridge and kettle. It had a separate toilet and shower. The beds were comfortable, and the room and shower were clean and neat. Serviced every day if desired. The hotel is situated in the center of Adelaide in a pedestrian area with all the malls and shops around it. However, we didn't hear foot or traffic noise. Public transport is nearby, which we used extensively. On our arrival, we were greeted by Michelle, our receptionist. She made us very welcome and explained the area and sights to see in Adelaide. Every morning, a smiling Good Morning greeted us as we passed reception. I would certainly go back to the hotel and would recommend it. Nb. My brother is from N Ireland, and I'm from Cape Town, SA.

Hotel Richmond is a 4 star hotel and costs about $210 a night. It was built in 1927 and named Richmond after the birthplace of the then owner Charles Richmond John Glover. it was the Cornwall in in 1838 and Plough and Harrow Hotel from 1844. I did not stay there as stayed at the Youth Hostel.

Terrible Customer Service

Dreadful, rude customer service. Our room access card got wiped by a small magnetic clasp on my wallet. After years of travel, this is the first time this has ever happened, indicating the quality of their cards is very poor. This meant we got locked out of the hotel late at night in the cold and rain. There is nobody from the hotel you can call to let you in, so we had to call a separate security company, which put us on hold for ages, then took 40 minutes to come and let us in. The security agent said this happens all the time and sometimes the wait is over an hour. They said there should be no way a wallet clasp can wipe a key card, but this hotel's cards are so cheap it is a regular occurrence. This is such poor customer service. Furthermore, when we informed reception of the above the next morning, the lady on duty (26 May) was extremely dismissive of us, blaming me for putting the card in my wallet! Victim-blaming with no empathy whatsoever - great customer service. She said there was a sign out the front (hidden by the open doors when we arrived) and the card issue was mentioned in our "welcome letter"- a folded piece of paper jammed in the card folder. We arrived late, due to flight delays and rushed out to get dinner before the restaurant closed, so no time to read a welcome letter. There was no mention of the card wiping issue in any of the emails advising of our accommodation booking and access details. I was gob-smacked at how rude, dismissive and unsympathetic the reception attendant was. I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is excellent value for money. Yes, you do have to walk for about 10 minutes maximum after the taxi drops you off as there is no vehicle access inside the mall. My advice would be to look for the KMart sign as the hotel is opposite this about half way down the mall. My room was large and quiet. These days people should not expect their rooms to be serviced everyday and I really appreciate what they are doing for the environment. A cafe close by that I found good was Cafe Clio on the 1st floor of the Rundle Mall Plaza. You can sit by the window and get a wonderful view of the mall below. If you do not have a car like me to get around Adelaide, I found that this hotel was ideal as it was within easy walking distance of the main transport options and other sights. The restaurant on the first floor is reasonably priced and you can sit outside and get a really good look at life below you.
